Our Process
Klein-Norby specializes exclusively in landscape architecture, site planning, and the design of site amenities. This process typically includes several steps including schematic or conceptual design, design development, construction documentation, and construction observation.
Schematic Design and Design Development
Landscape projects can differ in size and complexity with varying objectives. The first step in the process involves getting to know our client, their site, their goals, and their budget. We will use topographic and boundary surveys to understand the site constraints and opportunities.
Once the design process begins, we will use our understanding of the site to preserve existing trees, minimize site grading, and the need for costly retaining walls. We use our computer-generated imagery to convey those ideas as three-dimensional images.
Construction Documentation
Once the design process is complete, Klein-Norby will prepare the detailed construction documents and bid documents necessary to solicit competitive bids from landscape contractors and tradesmen. Providing detailed plans, specifications, and bid forms will ensure that both the owner and the contractor fully understand the project scope, which will allow the contractors to prepare their bids with confidence.
Construction Observation
During construction we make frequent visits to the site to help the contractor interpret the plans, monitor progress, and look for opportunities to make the project better. Oftentimes this is simply minor adjustments to the site grading or plantings. Our regular presence on-site allows us to focus on the subtle details of the design and to ensure that the project stays on schedule and on budget. Whether we are working with your landscape contractor or one of our preferred contractors, we will help coordinate and oversee the project to ensure its success. As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details”.
